TUTHILL~ABRIA SHEPHERDS

located in beautiful Middletown, CT.
I am a signer of the Breeders Code of Ethics
(860) 704-0552

I am a member of:

  • German Shepherd Dog Club of America
  • German Shepherd Dog Club of Canada
  • German Shepherd Dog Club of Greater New Haven, Inc.

I have been breeding since 1988. I believe that every breeding should be well planned. I try to breed healthy, sound animals with good, strong instincts to do the work our breed was created to do. I also want the pups to be able to fit into a normal pet home and become a loved & loving member of your family. I do NOT breed them to be attack dogs. I do breed for strong herding instincts, and strong working minds, loyalty & devotion to their family. I also want them to have beautiful conformation & breed type so I can show & breed the one that I keep.

In 2000 Abria Shepherds join me & the Tuthill~Abria Shepherds breeding & exhibiting program became a reality. Tracy & Adam bring new ideas and fresh insight into my program.

Every puppy comes with:

  • AKC registration papers
  • a written agreement,
  • complete documented vet records,
  • the first puppy shot
  • documented worming dates
  • a five generation pedigree,
  • pictures of both parents,
  • Tuthill puppy packet
(contains written directions for feeding, food, report of puppy progress, information about puppy raising)
  • baby pictures of pups in their first 8 weeks

Most litters are viewed & evaluated by other breeders, knowledgeable friends, & AKC Judges of our breed. From their opinions the pups are accessed for temperament & conformation, and the best one or two is kept for showing & breeding. The rest are released to their pet homes at eight weeks old, not before. I strive for quality filled litters that are healthy, beautiful & smart. Most litters are Futurity Nominated. All litters are AKC registered.

Puppies are raised on Eukanuba dog food to give them the best possible start in life. Mothers have daily interaction with puppies until the pups leave here. Puppies from the age of 4 weeks old, also have daily interaction with the other dogs that are here. Close friends & family are encouraged to visit pups from early on to give the pups the social experiences needed for their life with children & adults. Pups are taken for daily walks on the trails on the properly here accompanied by adult dogs & myself.

I use the following theories when raising litters.

  • The Critical Periods in a dogs life (see links below)

Here are some very good online articles that you should read and that your breeder should also know about and use when raising every litter:
